Bishop Glenn Lyons
I became the pastor of Emmanuel in January 2000 after completing my four year Theological Honours degree at George Whitfield College in Cape Town. I came to faith in Christ in 1993 while attending pre-marriage classes at St. James Church Kenilworth. Before going into ministry, I had a variety of interesting occupations, including working as a paramedic, qualifying as a pilot and working my way around Europe for a year. I still have a keen interest in aircraft and for relaxation I enjoy reading and exploring, as well as hacking my way through the local golf course. Sandra and I were married in 1993 and we have two school going children; Jesse and Joseph.
I began serving as Assistant Minister at Emmanuel in March 2016. I became a Christian when I was about 20 years old, and along with most people I knew, I never would have thought I’d end up becoming a Pastor of a Church. Now I can’t imagine doing anything else with my life. Besides helping people grow in their relationship with Jesus, I also enjoy Mixed Martial Arts, Mountain Biking, Trail Running and Camping. I have a beautiful and godly wife named Jenny, and two precious little daughters named Izabella and Juilet.
I have been involved in various ministries since I came to Christ in 1993 and I have worked alongside my husband, Glenn, from the start of his pastoral ministry. I obtained my George Whitfield College Theological Certificate with distinction in 2006. Since arriving in Port Elizabeth, I have focused on encouraging and teaching ladies to grow in their walk with Christ. I am committed to my husband and children. I have a passion for music, I’m a keen reader and enjoy cycling, running and swimming.
I grew up in Richards Bay, Natal and came to Christ in 1998. I have worked for Scripture Union and I have lived in the UK for two years. I obtained my theological degree in Children’s Work from George Whitfield College in 2006 and in 2011, I joined the Emmanuel team. The children’s ministry has grown from strength to strength in a short time here at Emmanuel. In my spare time, I enjoy watching movies and travelling. I am married to Simon, who is actively involved in teaching and completing his post graduate studies. Our son, Esi who is two, has just started going to play school this year.
